April: Big Magic! Creative Living Beyond Fear

April showers brought Big Magic!

We embraced a life of creativity through the learnings of Big Magic! Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Creativity is inherent within all of us. Nurturing this seed within us is important to our wellness walk in this life. Regardless of any skill level or outcomes, pursuing a creative passion is a worthwhile endeavor to incorporate in life. Some of us may live creativity day in and day out. In my own journey this seed found me in the throws of a corporate daily grind. This new way of being breathed life back into my soul and gave me a new sense of purpose in everyday environments.

The creative process is the land of enchantment. We get to choose to be in a relationship with creativity, almost like a magical force, moving in and out of our lives cultivating a sense of wonder and openness to inspiration. All we need to do is follow the smallest seed of curiosity. That smallest seed of curiosity will lead us right into what a creative living has to offer us in communion with wellness.

Gilbert talks about cultivating a sense of stubborn gladness. The deliberate choice to cultivate joy and a positive outlook, even in the face of challenges and difficulties. We can cultivate this through persistent determination to find joy in the creative process itself. It’s the resilience we find and commitment to finding joy in the pursuit of creativity, not just the outcomes that brings such a wellspring of joy to our life. This joy is not just a fleeting moment, it’s a deeper sense of gratitude for the opportunity to be in communion with creativity in our daily lives, even though parts of life are inevitably tough.

We spent time talking about rejection. Rejection is a part of life as AND we have a choice around it. Gilbert walked us through her own stories of how she embraced rejection and dare made it a fun process in life describing it as playing tennis. When one ball of rejection came in, she playfully hit back the next ball right back out into the Universe with stubborn gladness. See what she did there?!

Of course life’s creative journey is not completely smooth and without bumps in the road. However, with persistence and a trickster fun spirit the joy filled path of creative living is not far out of reach.

We ended our time together working our way through fear. Taking note that fear is an obstacle, yes, and we can embrace it! It takes courage to take creative risks and embrace the vulnerability that comes with creative pursuits. The fear that comes alongside perfectionism can stop us in our tracks. When we release this, we give ourselves permission to be creative even if it’s messy and imperfect! And, dare I say, maybe just maybe, the mess and imperfection is where the beauty is at anyhow.

Onwards we go on our discovery of what it means to be well and how leaning into creativity aids in our collective life journeys.

Join us this month as we explore Anatomy of the Spirit by Dr. Caroline Myss! It’s a great one and will be an enriching discussion exploring the seven stages through which everyone must pass in the search for higher consciousness and spiritual maturity.

Come as you are! For real, real.

Be well and be love,

Kara
